I’m Trying to Be Like Jesus

It's easy to assume Jesus would act a certain way when we're thinking about it hypothetically. But I think it's hard to know until we're in a situation where we really need to ask ourselves, ``What would Jesus do?``

I recorded this hymn for my last album Mormon Guitar: Tune My Heart but I’ve never done a video for it. Now felt like a good time.

I’ve always loved this song. I think it is simple and pure.

I was able to record this the night before I returned that 60 year old guitar I’m playing. It’s been a real treat to play it for the last month. It felt like an old soul. And like this song, it had a simple and pure tone. I’m glad I was able to record this with it.

I hope we’re all trying to be like Jesus. Most of the time, we don’t know what Jesus would do until we’re in a situation where we need Him.It’s easy to assume Jesus would act a certain way when we’re thinking about it hypothetically. But I think it’s hard to know until we’re in a situation where we really need to ask ourselves, “What would Jesus do?” I hope we can pause and ask ourselves how would the Savior would act if he were us right now.

I’m not perfect at doing that. I have a bad habit of asking that question after the fact. But I hope that one day it will become so natural that we won’t even have to ask. We’ll already know.

I’m trying to be like Jesus;
I’m following in his ways.
I’m trying to love as he did, in all that I do and say.
At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice,
But I try to listen as the still small voice whispers,

“Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
For these are the things Jesus taught.”

I’m trying to love my neighbor;
I’m learning to serve my friends.
I watch for the day of gladness when Jesus will come again.
I try to remember the lessons he taught.
Then the Holy Spirit enters into my thoughts, saying:

“Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
For these are the things Jesus taught.”

    I needed that this morning. Life can be trying and sometime we need a beautiful reminder.

    Thank you so much!
